The authors investigated the role of homosexual arousal in exclusively heterosexual men who admitted negative affect toward homosexual individuals. Participants consisted of a group of homophobic men (n = 35) and a group of nonhomophobic men (n = 29); they were assigned to groups on the basis of their scores on the Index of Homophobia (W. W. Hudson & W. A. Ricketts, 1980). The men were exposed to sexually explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual, and lesbian videotapes, and changes in penile circumference were monitored. They also completed an Aggression Questionnaire (A. H. Buss & M. Perry, 1992). Both groups exhibited increases in penile circumference to the heterosexual and female homosexual videos. Only the homophobic men showed an increase in penile erection to male homosexual stimuli. The groups did not differ in aggression. Homophobia is apparently associated with homosexual arousal that the homophobic individual is either unaware of or denies.

Much as this study amuses me, I wonder about the validity of it. When you consider that thickening of the erectile tissue results from increased blood flow and increased blood flow can be cause by anger, it sort o follows that a homophobe seeing gay pictures is gonna get annoyed and/or angry and thus.....
I'm not saying being angry automatically gives you a stiffy, but it's way too easy to say all homophobes are closet queens.
I mean, how many time has any of the blokes here had a stiffy on the bus? Does that mean you're angry with public transport? Or bus-phobic? OKay, bad example as first buses are arse-gravy of the highest order, but you know what I'm saying
Its like saying all women are lesbians as similar studies show that they get wet at lezzie porn as well as straight porn, in fact even more so than straight stuff

And to confuse things even further, there's some scientific evidence that suggests that many people are turned on by fear, or at the very least, the effects of fear and arousal on the human body are remarkably similar, so these studies may not actually show us that much about the mind of a bigot.
