Just thought I would ask everyone for their ideas for Smash the Closet our new union club night for next year. Personally I don't think it should be anything like Mission or even an alternative night like Icecream, while it should have some music that would be played on those nights. But as Smash the Closet is to be a Coming Out party themed event I do think some obviously queer music would be in order too! I also feel we should add something new, I was thinking a whole range of stuff from 50s-60s Rock'n'roll to 70s Disco could be squeezed in too... Then the DJs search can begin.
Basically the plan is for a night to be held during the week of Leeds Pride on Tuesday the 29th of July. I thought that would be a good way to launch, we wouldn't need everything finalised for that event per se - but rather as a good practise run for the main ones on Wednesday October the 8th and December the 3rd. The one for Leeds Pride isn't guaranted, the actual festival is on the 3rd of August- I know loads will be going to Brighton but doesn't mean we shouldn't give it a go. The union are afterall desperate for revenue at that time of year.
So basically throw all you've got at me. Ideas for decor, music and publicity stuff the union will use. But hurry I'll need to have the basics of Smash the Closet for Pride organised within 2 weeks! (If they accept the application of course)
I'm around in Leeds most of the summer so if you've got patterns, leaflets etc to show email it to me at chm4la@leeds.ac.uk or even give me a call on 07815500336 to meet up and chat about the event.

Only if you were to wear a blindfold...but I favour raising money for crack addicts to wrecked to go out and rob people to pay for their habits.
The one for the 29th of July is not going to happen anymore so we have a fair bit longer to discuss the plans.
