Just received this. It touched a nerve. So I thought people should at least see it.
"Dear members of this forum,
My name is Kizza musinguzi a Gay Rights Activist living London. I am sending you this email to request your members to sign my online petition ( www.gayrightsuganda.org/petition2.htm). I am also the Author of www.gayrightsuganda.org.
I am a student as well, studying for BEng(Honours).
I was tortured and imprisoned our gay rights work in Uganda, Homosexuality in Uganda is illegal punishable with a life a sentence in Prison. Villagers will normally burn homosexuals alive since they believe we are evil and the only way to get rid of evil is to incinerate it. The Anglican church has turned against the LGBT community in Uganda, calling for the arrest and imprisonment of all LGBT people in Uganda.
I and member of www.gayrightsuganda.org have been threatened by the Uganda government for publishing the website. The minister in charge of ethics has threatened to imprison us for life if we ever returned to Uganda.
The Home Office is claiming the torture i suffered in Uganda does not constituent abuse and is arguing it would be safe for me to return to Uganda. Despite the fact that 3 independent doctors that have examined me have confirmed I have scares consistent with torture methods in a Ugandan prison.
My case is going to be used as a case study on the situation of Gay people in Uganda. Winning this legal battle would mean people of the LGBT community fleeing Uganda would be able to get protection from European governments.
Thank you for reading this email, Hope we can be partners in fighting discrimination and abuse against the LGBT community in Uganda and the rest of Africa.
