The LGBT Societies Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on
THURSDAY 24TH FEBRUARY 2005 at 7.30pm in Meeting Room 3 of the ARC
(upstairs in the union).

Every member of the society is invited to attend.

At the meeting each officer reports back on the committee’s work
throughout the past year, constitutional amendments are made (when
necessary) and elections for the new committee take place.

So if you want to get involved with the organisation or running of the
society the stand for a position!!

The following positions are available at the AGM

Core Positions:

• President (Chair)
• Secretary
• Treasurer

Other Positions

• Women’s Officer (who must be female)
• Men’s Officer
• Trans Officer
• International Student’s Officer
• Social Secretary (Events)
• Communications Officer

To stand for the committee you have to:

• Be a member of the society
• Be a member of Leeds University Union
• Currently be studying at the University of Leeds and be continuing
that study until at least the end of March 2006.

Every position apart from Treasurer and Secretary may be ‘job-shared’ by
no more than 2 people who run for the position and are elected together.
The current committee encourage job-sharing in the interests of the
committee’s ability to fully represent all members of the society,
spread more evenly workload and make the committee’s decisions more
democratic.

You are allowed to run for up to two positions (only one of which may be
a core, ie you cannot stand for Secretary and Treasurer, but could stand
for Secretary and Communications), however it is recommended that you
only stand for one.

To run for a position you must:

• Be nominated by a current member of the society
• Have that nomination seconded by a current member of the society
• Write a manifesto of no more than 500 words (per person) explaining
why you a running for the position and what you might do in that
position. Said manifesto must reach the committee by the specified date
ready for publishing. Any manifestos received after this date will not
be entered.

THE DEADLINE FOR MANIFESTOS IS FRIDAY FEBRUARY 18TH AT 5PM

Once the new committee have been elected they will work alongside the
old committee until March 18th 2005. After that date the new committee
will take control of the society.

***IMPORTANT***

The current committee are running and informal workshop for anybody who
wants to run or is thinking of possibly running for a position on the
committee. It’s recommended (though not essential) that you attend. At
the workshop we’ll be explaining the roles of each officer on the
committee, how the election process takes place, talk about nominations
and seconding, what to write in a manifesto and also answer any
questions you might have.

The workshop takes place on MONDAY 14th FEBRUARY 2004 at 7pm in MEETING
ROOM 5 of the ARC (The place where Coffee Hour normally runs from)

Refreshments will be provided and we’ll more than likely go out
afterwards to celebrate/commiserate Valentines Day.

If you have any initial questions about running for a position, please
direct them to a committee member in person or email
luu.lgbt@leeds.ac.uk

*************

If you don’t want to run for a committee position PLEASE still come to
the AGM and vote. Your vote is extremely important – it gives you the
power to change and make better the society as you see fit.

Refreshments will be provided at the close of business and we will then
head down to ‘Homo’ at Mission.

If you have any questions, please come and see the committee or email us
at luu.lgbt@leeds.ac.uk
