Real Culture (Exhibition opening)

Does anybody want to come to the opening of an exhibition at the Eyestorm Gallery on Vicar Lane this evening. It's on 6-9 and there'll be wine and posh nibbles. It's all for charity as well.

It's all for sale too, if you have a spare hundred quid lying around.

was that a bit too random? i guess not everyone has got as obsessed with it as i have over the last few weeks, watching and re-watching the dvds. so, so sad.

It's not tat, it's all really good stuff! I think a neon sign installation will look good in meeting room 5.

I resent the implication that going shopping for neon signs is real culture whilst my post about classical music is somehow fake culture...

That all depends on what you consider culture?!

If culture is listening to something that was once culture, then OK. But surely it is quite snoby, or even patronising to deem what and what is not culture? Surely culture is individual, communal, ever changing? Does something have to be part of a canon - musical, literary or artistic - to be considered cultural? Weren't the works of Picasso and the like deemed uncultural once? Are they cultural now? Or do we no understand there cultural significance then? Does that understanding mean they are cultural now? Is a messy bed 'art', is rap music 'cultural'?

What is culture?

dave, you're even more green this time. you look like something from a bad eighties sci fi film.

rich, thanks for taking us to the exhibition - really enjoyed it. sorry for dragging you to k-lash though. hope you weren't too bored.
