I came across an article just now about Bush's contribution to the state of LGBT rights in the western world that I thought people might find interesting: http://www.gaywired.com/article.cfm?id=20937§ion=67
The Bush hasn't been the best. From working on an american based sexual health site, scarleteen.com, who was hassled by government bodies for offering comprehensive sex ed resources, it's easy for me to see that the fact that he's moving on out is a very good thing... his administration pumped millions into "abstinence only" organisations all flooding propaganda into schools about nothing more useful than that you need to be pure and waiting to become a lovely straight husband or wife before having sex, and how dirty and ruined you will be if you betray that. That won't have done much good for gay politics in the long run, on top of the huge implications to individuals' sexual and mental health.
Absolutely. I think he moved us back several years, at a time when it would have been easier for us than ever before to successfully educate people to they could appreciate queerness as something acceptable. Part of the reason I put this up was so that people could see solid evidence supporting arguments for why Bush was bad for LGBT people. Another reason I wanted people to have a look at it, though, was because it at least attempts to show another side of the coin and, as ever, I very much appreciate articles that are overall anti-Bush but without falling into the trap of being populist and essentially empty.
I really feel for President Obama hes got to go through and clean up all the mess that Bush made repair the rifts in communities that GW made 2 terms of office and hes undone everyhing accomplished since stonewall they are even raiding gay bars again its insane
