Nichola will be working hard to represent all your views and issues on a formal union level and will be implementing campaigns with the LGBT assembly and LGBT Committee.
This is great news. Hopefully by Easter we will have sorted stuff out and we can let younknow how to get involved!!
Love lots, and well done hon.

wanna celebrate by taking me away to a far off island and leaving me there forever? I'd be most grateful for the opportunity never to have to live in this ****ing house ever again, and could spread the good word of Queer to the other islands in the region.

Well done Nic, I knew you could do it. Promise me the power won't go to your head like Margret Thatcher! The big hair and awful blue handbags wouldn't suit you. Cheers louv, have a drink on me.

Anonymous, if you have a problem with the society, why don't you speak to one of the committee in private? I'm sure they would be more than willing to listen to any concerns you may have about the society.
I have been involved with the society since september 2003, and from my experience the society has been a mostly welcoming environment. If that is not your experience, we can better address that by hearing your thoughts in person.

I think not.
No surprise there are rumbling of an alternative LGBT soc that represents EVERYONE being formed...."
firstly, we're not cliquey. we're merely congratulating a friend on running for and winning an elected position in our union, and a very important one at that. did you run for it? well no, obviously.
secondly, get your facts straight-- there is no talk of an alternative LGBT society being formed. what's actually happening is that we've got to the point where we're so active in the union, and our members are so active within the society, that a social society is no longer adequate for what we intend to do, and LGBT representation is changing structurally, while we will keep the social side to the society.
i have no time for people who flame anonymously on this forum. constructive criticism is duly welcomed, and often helps us to better the way we do things. childish and ill-founded comments like yours do little other than irritate people.
if all you're going to do is tell us how crap we are without even trying to get involved with the society, then you can fúck right off and leave this thread for its original purpose-- to congratulate someone less bone-idle than you who's trying to make a difference to the lives of LGBT students.

I'd usually respond to such a comment but I am just gonna say that I think the past six months where we have seen huge coffee hour turnouts, new members and intrest in our society every week and a great week of events for Queer Week has proved we aren't the cliquey bunch we are constantly portrayed by outsiders to be.
We have had nothing but praise from the union on how we are conducting ourselves and members are getting more actively involved with the society. Hopefully the formation of the LGBT assembly and Nics representation will help us promote and highlight our political and equality issues better.
Well done again Nic.

Oh and just to say that if a new society was formed what would be the point. If it was meant to represent EVERYONE as you say, but would work in opposition to the current LGBT, then it wouldn't be representing everyone. Right?
See I just can't help myself.

Cheers 4 ur post anon. Y don't u get sum ****ing balls & post under ur own ****ing name? Better yet actually turn up to sum ****ing events, interact with our members and then try n tell us we r cliquey! Since September theres been HUGE changes in the society, more people have been turning upto events, coffee hours and the society is a friendly welcoming one, the new committee are also working hard to keep the friendly welcoming environment going, DON'T label us with sum brush based on whatever experience you may have had in past years etc or any misconceptions you hold in your derranged little mind.
I've been running my arse off tryin to get people involved, talk to new members, we even have 2 stundets from the Met uni who regularly turn upto coffee hour and our events because they like the relaxed friendly environment in our LGBT, if thats not an advert 4 how friendly we r then i don't know wot is.
Another thing I will say on this matter is that I ran for Union Council to represent ALL LGBT students in university, not to gain popularity among friends, I wanna make sure this union provides a safe welcoming space for all LGBT students and generally raise their issues and awarenss of said issues. Been attacked by sum ****ing half-wit who's clearly not made the effort to get involved this year isn't going to help matters.
As for starting your own soceity good luck to you & if u need any representation your LGBT group (if & when u get it running) be sure to come to me so I can ensure your members are fairly represented in the union.
Any further problems or comments u have please direct to me on the e-mail addresses at the bottom of this post. Otherwise shut the **** up, grow up or come & speak to me face to face cos I'd love 2 meet the spineless wanker who seems to constantly insist on attacking the society its hard working committee and members. Until u actually turn up you have no room to make such comments & certainly NOT TO ATTACK ANY LGBT STUDENTS WISHING TO CONGRATULATE ME ON RUNNING FOR AND GAINING A POSITION WHERE I CAN HELP REPRESENT ALL LGBT STUDENTS WITHIN THE UNIVERSITY TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY!
better yet if u think you can do a better job of representing all LGBT students within the univeristy, feel free to challenge me on my position and run for it yourself, otherwise **** off and **** up! Have a nice day! xxx

If you do have some serious complaint or issue with the society:
In the first instance send us an email to which we will reply asap. If that doesn't suffice, committee members can meet with you to reach some sort of compromise or provide explainations or resolutions for you. If that isn't sufficient, you can email Seb, the union's societies officer on socs@union.leeds.ac.uk.
Whilst this forum is good for discussion and debate, it is in no way a place for us to resolvce arguments or problems of this nature. I recommend you do the above if you have some serious beef with the society.
I might also add that if there is anymore bitchiness on this thread I will ask Forum Admin to close it and/or delete the messages in question.
Please, when engaging in debate, show respect for the person you are debating with, make your posts as constructive as possible and critcise the opinion not the person.
Thanks, and keep talking!

Edit: Actually I just looked up, and I did say well done, but twice doesn't hurt, right? By the way, I want you to take me away now more than ever. If you don't I'll be in danger of committing multiple homicides or disappearing off the earth without warning, lol.

I think you were justified in making such comments Nic. One anonymous butchy stab deserves such a reply. I would have (and have in the past) said a similar thing.
