So as JK and I both have a bit of affection for some Motown/Soul music, I was just wondering what people would think if we added a bit of that sort of music to the playlist(s) for ¿Curious?

Stevie Wonder? Diana Ross & Supremes? Four Tops? James Brown? Martha & The Vandellas?
Vote with your, erm, fingers!

Whenever he calls my name, something insi-he-ide!

hurrah for Motown. If you were there at the last instalment of Curious nice and early, you would have heard some Diana Ross and some Stones! Ahhh, Mum would be proud!

JK darling, your pic isn't working.

I think i'l just bring the Sister Act 1 & 2 soundtracks, that'd work wouldn't it?
Heatwaaaave!

Ooh, we need to do the heatwave hands á la Sister Act!

Go for the motown! Musical diversity is never bad, and it would make a nice chilled start to the evening.

Sounds good to me. Stevie Wonder definately, and some Supremes, and though it is slightly edgeing away from Motwon, Mr Bigstuff by Aretha Franklin as well.

A whole set?

Maybe JohnK & I should club together to do a set seeing as though we're the DJs who are interested in it? I reckon it'd be a nice little set to put at the beginning..

I wouldn't mind a bit of Sly Stone, & even Kool & the Gang - they sort-of fit into the soul/funk category don't they?

I also have a bootleg of Sly Stone with Beyoncé which is fabulous! (Crazy Love Affair) I heard it before the original Beyoncé & I still prefer it!

it would be like the bars around the corn exchange, such as normans etc, they mix it up with indie and stuff.

Will I be third time lucky and will I get to say farewell to Curious with a Judy Garland song this time?

Oooh I like Norman´s! When I went there they played Ladysmith Black Mambazo´s Call me Al, it was excellent.

Artist: Paul Simon
Album: Graceland
Title: You Can Call Me Al

A man walks down the street
He says why am i soft in the middle now
Why am i soft in the middle
The rest of my life is so hard
I need a photo-opportunity
I want a shot at redemption
Don't want to end up a cartoon
In a cartoon graveyard
Bonedigger bonedigger
Dogs in the moonlight
Far away my well-lit door
Mr. beerbelly beerbelly
Get these mutts away from me
You know i don't find this stuff amusing anymore
If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you betty
And betty when you call me
You can call me al

A man walks down the street
He says why am i short of attention
Got a short little span of attention
And wo my nights are so long
Where's my wife and family
What if i die here
Who'll be my role-model
Now that my role-model is
Gone gone
He ducked back down the alley
With some roly-poly little bat-faced girl
All along along
There were incidents and accidents
There were hints and allegations

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you betty
And betty when you call me
You can call me al
Call me al

A man walks down the street
It's a street in a strange world
Maybe it's the third world
Maybe it's his first time around
He doesn't speak the language
He holds no currency
He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound
The sound
Cattle in the marketplace
Scatterlings and orphanages
He looks around, around
He sees angels in the architecture
Spinning in infinity
He says amen! and hallelujah!

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you betty
And betty when you call me
You can call me al
Call me al

I suspect that if you can find a motown mix you would be in luck. Otherwise, playing Judy Garland will probably results ina lot of people saying farewell to Curious very quickly

I meant a farewell song, Adam. A song like Salve Regina, a song you wouldn't normally hear in a club, but which makes a nice end to a night.

I know that song, Annie (obviously, lol). My parents like Paul Simon.

I think Master of the House would provide a far lustier farewell than anything Judy Garland could come up with.

The song lyrics section is here

By the way, what do people think about some Jackson 5 being played?
Thought we could keep it topical & go for Can You Feel It? (The one The Tamperer sampled, if you don't know it?)

...Well if you're talking about f00k-off music, you really need to ask JohnK anyway, because his set will be at the end , if last time is anything to go by.

Along with at the beginning and in the middle, of course.

Ooh!

We could maybe make it Old skool/ Classic Indie or Rhythm & Blues stylee music?
Bit like Brighton Beach night at the union, or Wednesdays at HiFi, except with more music that people know?

A couple more ideas for songs include:
Kinks - You Really Got Me
Gloria Jones - Tainted Love
The Who - My Generation
Gladys Knight & the Pips - I Heard It Through The Grapevine

Fair enough, but Indie is pretty much taken care of isn't it, especially when you consider there were two hours of it last time.

And you're not Thai, get over it for god's sake.
