Intro 2 the Political Assembly!

Hey All!

Most of ya know me, but for those of you who don't... I'm Nic and I'm the Chair of the LGBT Students Assembly!

The Assembly is going to be starting in September and is all about representing LGBT&Q Students in our union, fighting for our rights, tackling homophobia/bi-phobia/transphobia within the university, raising awareness of LGBT(&Q) issues, and campaigning against issues such as the National Blood Services ban on gay and bisexual men from giving blood.

Part of the assembly will involve discussing what we want to see change within our union, writing up plans for these and taking them to the universities union council, where I will make our case heard and fight for our motions to be passed, helping to implement these changes into our union and running awarness workshops/debates/campaigns within the union for the LGBT and anyone else interested in coming to them!

In addition to that there will also be the chance for people to go to the NUS LGBT Conferences, where you vote on motions deciding what the NUS are going to campaign for, electing committee members for the NUS, attending various interesting workshops, meeting other people and learning from them, as well as taking back enuff information to be able to make a change within your union by applying and implementing things learnt from conference into the union. In addition to all of the above, the assembly will also have social events especially for assembly members to unwind, have a laugh and let their hair down.

If you are interested in being on the assembly and making a difference in the union please don't hesitate to contact me, and similarly if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask me, I don't bite (unless u ask me 2 but thats a different matter & prices start at £20...) I'm always around uni (u can usually hear me, so follow the noise) or can be reached thru the LGBT e-mail address or alternatively theres my personal address plastered all over the forum.

The assembly is open to ALL students interested in LGBT&Q issues, regardless of whether they are post-grad, under-grad or freshers who are starting in September (if any freshers want to get involved you are more than welcome to!) & everyone is encouraged and welcome to join!

Hope to hear from you/cya soon! Take care!
Luv ya all!

Nic xxxxx
