Has anyone seen this film? This AMAZING film? I can't get the soundtrack out of my head. I have a love affair with this film in that even though it is not an easily watchable experience it is such a challenge to the conventional America cinema fair that is dredged through the cinemas these days.
Also it features some truly wonderful acting - especially Ellen Burstyn ("My name is Sarah Goldfarb...and I'm gonna be on television") and Jennifer Connelly.

One of my favourites... Relentlessly miserable though, innit.
I seem to remember that they nicked the soundtrack for the LOTR: The Two Towers trailer, which was weird.
But yes, smashing stuff. People did bitch about the speedy MTV editing and flashy showiness of it all but I think it's just a razor-sharp fine tuned bit of nastiness. Some tremendous acting, and I agree with you about Burstyn, especially in the bit where she breaks down in front of Jared Leto... you know the bit I mean.
YES YES YES...and the bit on the train when she [Sarah] is continuously breaking down and you realise that this is how society can crush you to become a (please excuse this turn of phrase) 'psycho on the tube'.

I absolutely adore this film... my housemate and I actually watched it at 3am this morning...
I got my friend in America to buy the soundtrack CD for me, and it's good but not something you'd wanna listen to again and again cos it's split into about a zillion tracks that are around 30secs long. If anyone wants a copy just give me a shout cos I know how expensive it is over here...
Has anyone read the book on which the film is based? I tried, and gave up cos I couldn't cope with the writing style.
I think Thaila might be perfect and possibly my new best friend!!! The acting style derives from the 'method'. Originated by Stanislavsky and then further developed at the Actor's Studio in New York, of which Ellen Burstyn is the director. Famous actors who went there include Marlon Brando (who made the style famous in the film 'On the Waterfront' which changed film acting forever), Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro and even Marylin Monroe went there to improve her abilities. Ellen and Jennifer both honed their craft there.
Love the phone conversation scene in which Jared breaks down and Jennifer continues to apply her make-up for her impending hellfest sex show.

JENNIFER CONNELLY IS AMAZING...I watched 'House of Sand and Fog' on Saturday and it confirmed to me that Jennifer is definitely in the running for best actress of her generation (should anyone ever be gonk enough to suggest such a thing). Her eyes convey more in a flicker than any other actress I can think of. Ben Kingsley and Shoreh Aghdashloo were also unbelievable.
There is the most shocking scene in this film which I won't give away but it includes the son of Kingsley's character and precipitates a just as shocking ending. Thumbs up.

I'm very excited to learn Jennifer and Kate Winslet are to star together in 'Little Children' which is being directed by Todd Field who directed the beautifully constructed 'In the Bedroom' with Sissy Spacek and Tom Wilkinson...Oscars immediately.

the bit that brought a tear to my eye was right at the end where 2 of the women came to visit the 'im gonna be on tv' woman (sorry, im never any good with remembering character names) in the place (don't want to say anything incase i give certain things away). when the camera cut to them outside afterwards i could actually feel the emotion as they were the 'chorus' - the persons that were relatable in a sense.
at the end my flat was in silence. nobody knew what to say. it's always a good film when that happens.....or scarily ****e. but defo 2 thumbs up.
my fave bit of the film were the flashing lights - everytime somebody was going through a low point that was always a flicker from somewhere on the screen. brilliant!
