Hey everyone, I'm trying something a little different with this weeks email. Lots of people have told me they haven't been receiving the Topica emails, so I'm gonna email you all direct from te LGBT Webmail account to see if this is any better. (It also means you can reply direct to this email.)
Mens Meal - Monday 24th Our second mens meal of the term will see all of the guys heading down to Bella Pasta at the bottom of Briggate (Opposite McDonalds). We'll be meeting at Parkinson Steps at 7, and walking down together. This is a great chance for anyone who hasnt been to any events yet to meet lots of new people in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Most of the male members of the committee will be present too.
Womens Meal - Wednesday 26th Our female members will be meeting up at 7 at Parkinson Steps on Wednesday for their meal! You'll be heading down to Pizza Mania near the train station led by Womens Officer Evie! The aim is to eat at about 8, so you can meet everyone at Pizza Mania about 7.45 if that's more convenient than walking to Parkinsin Steps. There was a really good turn out for ht elast meal, so it'd be great to see lots of faces again!
Weekly Wind Down - Friday 28th Our every-other-week meet up in the Old Bar is happening again this Friday. There'll be committee members in there from about 8ish for a few drinks!
Hallowe'en Otley Run - Saturday 29th Our first proper Otley Run of the year is taking place on Saturday. We'll be meeting at Woodies at the top of Headingly at 3pm, and working our way back into town. Being tradition, the Otley Run will be fancy dress, so find your scariest outfit, mask, fake blood, and whatever else you might have!
BNP Protest - Wednesday November 2nd On November 2nd, Nick Griffin, leader of the fascist British National Party is in court in Leeds for his preliminary hearing, having been charged with incitement to racial hatred. We'll be meeting up at Parkinson Steps at 8.15AM, and marching down tot he Court for 9. This is a great opportunity to get our voices heard and make a united stance against the homophobic and racist BNP. I wll also be trying to arrange some time and space to make banners and get a speaker from Unite Against Fascism to come and talk to us.
NUS LGBT Winter Conference 2005 - 26th-27th November In November, the NUS is holding its annual winter LGBT conference in Coventry. We will be sending 4 delegates along, and these need to be elected by YOU! Anybody who self defines as LEsbian, Gay, Bi or Transgendered and is a student at Leeds University can stand for election. We need to receive a short manifesto (preferably via email) including your name and student number by Friday 28th November. Elections will take place the week after.
Trans Officer Elections Our bye-elections for a Trans Officer are still set to take place in early November, so anybody interested in standing for election needs to submit a manifesto to us (via email) within the next week.
And that my lovelies, is all! If anybody has any feedback on past events, or suggestions for future ones, feel free to reply to this email. Coffee Hour, 12-2 in the ARC, as usual.
Cheers me dears!
