Just letting you know that the NUS LGBT Conference will be held on 25th-27th November. It's important for people to go along to conference as it is a place where we can gain information about LGBT Issues, vote on motions for the national LGBT campaign, get involved with these, develop links wih the NUS & other LGBT's and bring all of this back to our union to improve it!
If you want to go to conference, you HAVE to be able to make it for the whole weekend! and write a manifesto of no more than 200 words, include your reasons for wanting to go, what you think you can gain from conference and how you could use it to help improve the union. On your manifesto please include your, name and student number then e-mail it into the usual address (luu.lgbt@leeds.ac.uk) by 5pm Friday. Voting will be carried out in coffee hour ALL next week and the results will be made known at the end of the week.
Thanks for reading!

Just to add that although I won't be applying to attend conference again, it was definitely an eye-opening experience and I'd encourage anyone with an interest in the operation of our uni as well as an interest in LGBT issues to submit a manifesto.
What is this conference....the manifesto is just why i want to go,how it will improve me and how can i use what i may get from it to benifit the union? are freashers alowed to go?
The NUS has an LGBT Liberation Campaign. They hold both a winter and summer and conference to vote on motions and policy, and run workshops and generally get people to be politically active with regards to lgbt issues.
As long as you are a member of LUU and self-define as L, G, B or T you can stand for election. Your manifesto should be concise, but outline your reasons for wanting to go as well as the other things you mention, and anything that you think is appropriate.
It needs to be emailed to luu.lgbt@leeds.ac.uk by friday.

Conference clashes with Symphonic Wind playing at the national concert band festival regionals, and I promised I'd be there before I heard about conference, so I deleted my manifesto from the inbox.

Hey Nick, Is there anything I'll need to do before we go on conference eg speech writing, research on issues etc Also I was wondering where the conference is being held this time round?
I heard a rumour that you guys are going to have to get the 04.25 to Coventry in order to arrive on time for Saturday. Someone might want to confirm that.
Apart from that all the problems from summer conference have been cleared up, steering did a gr8 job of controlling things this time, sum gr8 motions were passed, the workshops were really good, got loadsa info, the hotel we wer staying in wer ****ing useless n cudn't organise a piss up in a brewery, outta all the rooms, they put me in a room wi 2 college kids n only 2 single beds, then decided they wanted 2 move me but cudn't sort that out 4 me, so i did it myself cos hunny monster had a spare bed in her room, the social was crap as standard, so me n joey formed a new party wi the aston uni, coventry uni n wolves uni lot & went off in2 a coventry gay bar... was alot of fun!
