I'm such a big kid when it comes to Bonfire night. Lol, in my mind there really is no event more quintesentially 'English' then burning effigies of dead men and playing with ludicrously danegrous explosives!
So, in the spirit of knowing what y'all are like, and because I really enjoyed my first fireworks show in Hyde Park (despite them being, lets be honest, rather crappy and exceedingly "squelchy"), I thought I'd ask what everyone else thought of the bonfire last night, and what national days make you feel warm and fuzzy inside?
i still dont understand why it was last night?! Bonfire night is the 5th! I have quite a bizarre phobia of fireworks so im not that fussed about missing out.....
Its all about Christmas with me. Cheap, tacky, commerical...love it!
The event in itself was good, but mostly because my coursemates and I are a bunch of sarky twits and were poking fun at the fireworks all the time.
Alby.- That looked like sperm!
A parent glared at me, apparently. But, honestly, I didn't know there was a kid right beside me!
And what was about all that MUD?!?! At one point I thought I'd not be able to take another step because my shoes were sinking in it! The sound was amusing, though. CHOF CHOF CHOF CHOF...
Afterwards, we went to Baraka, and had wine a-plenty.... so a-plenty I started seeing double at some point in the night. We ended up at a friend's house. Thankfully, she lives two streets away from my house, so I crawled back home in two minutes, and, according to Dave, fell into the house in what seemed like a controlled stumble.

I didn't think last night was too bad altho most of the enjoyment came from mocking the people going 'oooh' at every firework.... which includes Phil! It would have been nicer if the cold hadnt made my feet go completely numb as well....
Fireworks night is the new valentines day, you just have to look around to see the number of couples... its disgusting! Im not bitter at all

Well, I'd love to stay and chat, but you're a total bitch.
I can actually picture Phil making a fuss over them!!
I didn't notice the couples, so that probably means I didn't give a damn about being single last night! I was with my friends, and that's good enough for me.
However................................. ah, bloody hell. We all need a man in our lives. (Except lesbians...
and some bisexual women who have nice girlfriends....
and straight men, who just need their mothers.)

*Agrees*
And I'm agreeing about both the couply bitterness and the mocking of Phil!
Well I missed them. I was shopping at Sainsburys at the time. Oops. I really didn't know that spending £250 on groceries took so long! Luckily, they weren't all my groceries otherwise I'd have absolutely no money left now. Not good.
I can, however tell you why it was on Friday instead of tonight. I talked to one of the stewards later on (when we got there; 9pm) who said that it's because the Council can't get enough staff to work the Sunday morning clearup. There's a remarkable amount of mess and so forth generated by these events and so they need quite a significant and coordinated clean-up crew! So that's why. Friday instead of Saturday.
Fireworks are pretty regardless of whether you watch them on your own or not, that is just a bonus. Valentines Day and Xmas however make me want to bomb Clinton Cards.

I didn't go. By the time I'd realised they changed the night to the 4th, I'd agreed to meet the boyfriend. And the boyfriend, it turns out, is completely ambivalent towards fireworks.
I did go to an indoor fireworks display held by the Chemistry Dept. in the uni, though, hosted by an eccentic guy who looked a bit like Jimmy Saville. It was all well and good and full of things that went BANG! well, until the fire alarm kept going off.
hey how come me as a chemistry student wasnt even aware there was some thing going on in the chemistry department.... although to be fair im not all there most of the time at uni. and when i am all there its usually cos i have the urge to kill something....

Alice, you have to come round for a cuppa sometime soon. If you like fireworks, I can always put a bit of gunpower in your tea. It gives it a sparkly flavour.
Why do I write these things? Haha. Come round, though.

OI! They were very pretty, i just couldnt help it!
I thought the Hyde Park fireworks were cool, tho i'm sure the bonfire was bigger last year. Hope everyone else that went had a good time
The whole of the neighbourhood of Hyde Park (as opposed to the park itself) was wrapped up in fireworks on the 5th. It was good fun reading in my living room and looking at the amazing display out of the window every once in a while.
