If elected I propose to do my best to ensure the welfare of all females within the LGBT, whether by offering a listening ear, or answering queries related to sexual health or personal issues. Making sure events are accessible to all female members and ensuring female members feel welcome when attending events would also be priorities, along with initiating campaigns to uphold the rights of LGBT women where necessary.
I worked briefly as a regional co-ordinator for the Queer Youth Alliance, in which I was expected to arrange events for local LGBT young people, oversee such events, and offer support to members if necessary. The duties I fulfilled in this role I feel would help me to fulfil at least some of the responsibilities expected of a women’s officer.
Finally, I hope my joke-telling abilities will make me an asset to the LGBT:
Q. How many lesbians does it take to change a light bulb? A. Two. One to change the light bulb and one to write a folk song about it.

Hello, my name is Sally and I’m running for Women’s Officer. I’m applying for this position because I think I’m friendly, trustworthy and a very good listener. I can offer advice in a non judgemental way and I’m probably unshockable. I feel I am quite approachable and could offer members support for any problems either through directing them to an appropriate higher organisation or simply being there just to listen, all in strict confidence.
If elected my overall aim would be to work towards a more inclusive society: 70% of the lgbt’s members are women, and yet the turnout to the events is predominantly male. I would work closely with the events officer to try to cater for a wider range of interests.
I am also particularly concerned about the lack of clear information about HIV transmission between two women. I would attempt to produce a leaflet or poster with carefully researched, well sourced facts and advice.
I think I’d be able make a valuable contribution to women’s welfare in this society.

I would like to stand at the upcoming AGM as women's officer of the LGBT. Within this position I aim to provide a safe representation of all women within the society. I believe that women in the LGBT may sometimes need someone there who can help.
After two years at LUU I believe I have the ability to offer my support and awareness of issues in any way possible, always regarding the confidentiality component of the constitution. To aid with providing women with support and information there is a massive supply of resources within LGBT and also available in LUU, online and many other places. In this position I will make this information available and present it to all in such ways as improving the notice board outside the office. This may be sexual health information, recent campaigns for gay and bisexual women's rights, or maybe just the forthcoming women's events!
After working on the committee for the past year I have seen the hard work contributed by all and would like to follow this through to next year. I think the committee as a whole needs to work on both its strengths and weaknesses to provide an excellent background for all LGBT students at LUU. The way forward is to come together and present a forefront as one. I would like to be the voice of our female members on this committee to put forward views, needs and opinions by all.
