Your manifesto mentions improving the email system. How do you plan to do this?
What are your intentions with regard to the website, have you planned any developments?

Part of your role as Communications Officer entails maintaining and upgrading the web pages, which were awarded in the Riley's last year. How do you intend on maintaining this useful feature?

How do you plan to bridge the communications gap between the LGBT Assembly and the LGBT Society?

What actual improvements will you make to the current way the society's communications operates?

Being a Communications Officer is not just about being a creative person who can design posters. What other skills and experience can you bring to this position?

Well, with regards to the e-mail system, there are some people who have said that they are not always informed about some of the smaller, weekly events, such as the lazy day that happened a few weeks ago. I plan to send out regular bi-weekly e-mails, in addition to seperate e-mails for any major events, to all members so that they are kept regularly informed of everything that is happening.

With regards to the website, I personally feel that the current system works well that the design of the page is clear, concise and professional, and does not need to be changed. I will ofcourse keep updating it regularly and if I am elected I plan to open up the board to our members to give feedback on the site should anyone feel that something needs changing or improving. I hope that answers your questions satisfactorily. If you or anyone else should have anymore please feel free to ask :)

Very good questions Alice.
Well, as i said in my reply to dave's post, I feel that the website is great the way it is, and i intend to continue updating the information on it for our members. I have worked for a multi-national web graphics company before (tristar web solutions) and have hands on experience in maintaining websites (my job was maintaining the websites of standing clients and updating the information on them).

With regards to the assembly, I feel that our members need to be better informed of the role of the assembly and of its actions. I plan on doing this through the website and working with the assembly representatives to create pamphlets, posters and informative e-mails for our members, and to use the daily LGBT coffee hour as a means of letting people know of the assembly's role as this is where many of our members meet.

With the society's communications, as i have said in my reply to dave's post, i will keep up a regular e-mail system to our members to keep them informed of all the goings-on in the society. The system itself, however, does not necessarily need any changing as it is a good system that works well and merely needs continued organisation.

With regards to my experience, as i have said, I worked for a web graphics firm a few years ago and have experience in running and maintaining websites. I hope this answers your questions. If theres anything else feel free to ask

Many thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, Hani, but just one thing: in your manifesto, you mention that there have been problems with the mailing list due to unforseen circumstances. Yet you then say in your answer that, "the system itself, however, does not necessarily need any changing as it is a good system that works well." Aren't you contradicting yourself here?

It's a shame you didn't mention your web design experience in your manifesto, as I feel it's very relevant indeed.

It is true i did say that in my manifesto. I was talking about how many people have not been properly informed of certain events (lazy day being an example). In my reply to your first questions I did say that the system is a good system, but I also said that it needs continued organisation, which it does. I don't think that I am contradicting myself in this statement as the 'unforseen circumstances' I mentioned were not to do with the system itself but more to do with not all our members being informed of the society's events.

And yes in hindsight I should have included my previous work in my manifesto but I only wanted to give a brief outline of what I hope to offer the society in my manifesto and I intend to go into much more detail about all I have to offer in my speech at the AGM. I hope that clears up everything. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

As the current Communications Officer, I don't think there have been particular problems with people not know ing about events. I'm not saying there isn't room for improvement, but an email has been sent out EVERY SUNDAY since the beginning of term. The problem with the lazy day wasn't that people didn't know abou tit, but that no committee members turned up to run it!

Well, I do want to get into politics when I graduate!

Nah. It's only 'cause I'm too wimpy when it comes to public speaking to ask questions at the AGM. And, also, I do like the chance to give a good grilling.

I'd just like to point out that the things I've said on here and in my manifesto are in no way an attack on the current communications officer cuz hes done and continues to do a great job. I am merely pointing out the things I would do if I was elected - i.e. with e-mail, send out regular ones. This, however, does not mean that I think that the current coms officer doesn't handle the e-mail situation well, cuz he does. Just wanted to set the record straight

And in reply to Alice, feel free to ask more questions at the AGM. Grill me good and proper
