Gay Drivers on the Road!?

Hey Guys / Gals...

I was chattin to my mates yesterday and someone came out with 'Gay people can't drive.' After a bit of probing, i found out he may actually have a point from the point of view he was coming from compared to the (very limited number of) gay people i know! He's not homophobic or anything and wasnt generalising, but he said that 99% of gay peeps he knows can't drive / dont drive / aren't really bothered about driving... A quick analysis of my friends kinda agrees with this - so heres my question to you, a nice simple one... Do you Drive?

I know i couldn't wait to get my arse in my car on my 17th birthday (and am still usin her today!)

erm...*waves hand*...what about me?

i have a morbid fear of driving, to the point that I aim never to have to drive one. ever. I do however, want to learn to ride a motorbike, which I´ll probably start next year...

I live in a village when not at leeds.

Busses are not the most reliable or convenient of things and I'm lucky in that we get one an hour into town 7 miles away, thats a hell of a lot better than most of the surrounding vilages but still not that helpful. Cars are a necessity and so is driving

I had TERRIBLE driving experiences last summer. I took lessons cause my little sister started as soon as she turned 17 so thought I would too. I only had 4 lessons... the first lesson was ok, just drove around a housing estate. On the second lesson I was trying to turn left and went forward too quick and hit a landrover!! Third lesson I was going 35 and hit the curb and managed to swerve to a halt whilst the hub cap rolled down the street. Slashed the side of the tyre so spent the rest of the lesson changing it... fourth lesson I drove for about 30 seconds before I freaked out and made him take me home!!! I HATE DRIVING!!! It is horrible... there are so many hazzards!! never never never

i love driving, and i love my car. despite limited funds i can't bring myself to sell it.

and i'm a great driver. i clipped an oncoming car when i was learning, but my instructor said it wasn't my fault. oh, and i nearly sent us into a big brick wall when the car skidded on some muddy road in headingley. my instructor screamed and nearly **** himself, but i wasn't fussed, i had it all under control.

i've not had any bumps since passing my test though cos i'm ace (i just hope i'm not tempting fate)

yeah driving is cool.... especially on sunny days on country roads with steps blasting out the stereo.....

never hit any cars yet... altho i did hit a person on my mock test. (well caught his hand with my wing mirror). I assume he was ok - my instructor told me to drive away very quickly cos he looked angry. lol. Oh and i once got tailed by a policecar from a pub in the middle of nowwhere - they didn't believe that it'd been 2 days since i'd had a drink .... I couldn't help but laugh at them when they did the breathaliser test.....

I love to drive + miss my lovely car as it is at home! Luckily i drive a 1.8 mondeo, which when you consider the fact that i learnt in a corsa seems to me similar to driving a tank, this is lucky for me because although i have my licence im not exactly the worlds best driver.......worst mishap so far = driving into a petrol pump. Clever.

Camp songs blasting out of the car is one of my favourite part of driving! I had a CD from the G bar (its the main gay bar in liverpool) it had a great mix of camp music in the world 'santa maria' being my fav lol! we used to blast it everywhere oo the looks the looks.

Never really done anything bad , clipped the side of my car reversing out the path but it was ok and i hadnt passed yet !

I'm still learning, how long has it been now? longer than I care to think about. The worst thing that happened to me was bending the wing mirror back on a skip, (you couldn't move for them at the time in Carlisle, cos of the floods). There was a load of builders watching and they all laughed. I'ts the nerves that get me, I've taken ttwo tests and was too nervous. If I fail next time it'll have to wait til after I graduate, is far too expensive!!

I can drive, I just haven't passed my test! *ahem*

I'm sure it's true that the testing people have quotas of how many they need to pass and fail. I should have passed my 2nd test, I was perfect! My major fault was the fact that I wasn't a bloody mindreader. Bastards.

Not. Bitter. At. All.

Tests definitly go on quotas! I passed on the 4th attempt ! but i'm not bothered . The first was beacsue the examiner didn't know the route and a guy was speeding! the second erm i don't blame him but it was again more the other car who was in the wrong, who drives round a bus and round road works to joina que of traffic! the third was a mishap, on test 2/3 the examiner said sorry for failing me score!

I love driving.... Last year i picked up the nickname 'missionary' coz of random last minute long driving missions!

Still, no cheese blastin out my stereo! Its pretty sad but the sound system in my car is worth twice as much as the car itself - though doesn't help that my cars worth less than most peoples saturday nights drinkin money

Anyone 'selling' a car?? let me know!

I'm not really bothered about driving but my mum keeps pestering me asking when I'm going to start taking lessons. I probably will do, though I'm scared I'll kill people, cos I don't think I'd be very good! To be fair though I'm going to have to drive at some point if Im going to continue into the broadcasting indutry, cos luggling cameras round on buses isn't really feasible!!

It's not about the gay, it's about the cash. The only reason I learned to drive is 'cos Daddy paid for a load of lessons.

Total fluke when I passed though, 11 minors!!! But hey. Feck you all, I passed first time. The invidulator was ancient. I could have moshed a crocodile of school childern without him noticing. I did hear it depends very much on area though. There are some statistics published. Several of my friends went a few counties away to take thiers.

They definately do have quotas. I passed first time. I had my test at about 2pm and it was the first one of the day because all the others had been cancelled because of the snow! I had a snow ball thrown at me within 5 minutes of being on my test, ****ers.

I love driving. I'd be dead sad if I couldn't. My car will be at uni with me in August, woo!

its a little known fact that drivin examiners are only allowed 2 pass about 75% of people a day, so ur more likely 2 pass in the morning, afternoon tests u'll more than likely b failed, unless ur lucky enough 2b the last test of the day

Driving is very gay.

A certain LGBTer uses their car to drive to the gym!

Where is the logic in that?!

Hmph! (Furrows brow in undeniably mincey way.) Jogging on concrete is very bad for your knees, you know. Not to mention road-kill-risk. My gym back home in the shire is, like, a 15 minute drive away on very shoddy roads.

Driving definately brings out the gay, though. This stupid straight boy decided to brainfûck me with borderline flirting during a martial-arts demonstration (he kept throwing me really hard and then holding on for a bit too long when helping me up). I was also feeling sad as my hair looked shït that day.

All was restored, however, when I put on my mega cool sunglasses and swanned into a big-huge-feck-off silver freelander (okay, so it's really Mum's and they insured me on it for, like, one week), played loud 80s rock and dust trailed out of there, leaving him gawping out of the back of his mum's ford focus. How cool did I look!

So, basically I may be perpetually single, but I am also very spoilt. Yay!

Hmmm. I don't sound very well rounded do I? Well tough shït. I'm allowed to drive my Mum's 4x4. Woohoo!

All gays should get government grants to drive big, shiney cars.

whats the point in walking to the gym? by the time you get there you've burnt off all the excess calories and its time to go home. plus this is britain - i can't be arriving at the gym all rain soaked and wind battered. my gym is very gay and there's cute boys there.

That's not a good thing. I look like shït at the gym. My tee-shirt gets so wet you can see my nips, I go all flushed like a butcher's window porker and I get treadmill hair.

It's every bit as bad as it sounds.

Sigh. Oh well. I only go there to burn off biscuits and listen to the fame sound track. I think gym dating is a myth.

Strictly speaking from a gym instructors perspective (I'm fully qualified, will show u the certificates & proof). The whole point in walking to the gym is that it serves as a warm up. All workouts need a warm up and cool down session to loosen the muscles and joints, to prevent injury and stiffness, as well as preparing the body for physical exercise and giving it the chance to gradually slow down, rather than going from one extreme to the other, which creates a shock to the system.

Major parts of the warm up sessions are that they include mobility exercises - gentle & increasing rotation of joints in preparation for use, a gentle cardiovascular warm up, such as walking/light jogging to start getting the heart and lungs working abit harder, stretching of the muscles/muscle groups that are going to be used during the work out - this gently and gradually loosens the muscles and tendons in preparation for physical exertion, and a further cardio-vascular warm up that works the heart and lungs abit more, to act as a build up into the bulk of the exercise, so that your mind and body are fully prepared. Ideally the warm up session should last at least 20mins. (for cooldown just do the reverse of the warm up).

Walking to the gym serves a big part in preparing u for this as walking is a light exercise & its not only gettin the c.v system prepared for exercise, its also using and loosening up some of the muscle groups and joints that will be affected by the gym session, especially if the usage of treadmills are involved, therefore decreasing your risk of injury/stiffness and as a further point, even though it may take more time to get to the gym than driving, it will cut down the overall time of your workout so theres more time to sit n perv in the sauna. Although I'm quite willing to bet that you just go along to the gym & jump on a machine without going through any proper kind of warm up... whats the point in going to a gym and trying to improve ur body if ur damaging it/putting it at greater risk of damage by not going through the full motions of preparation for physical exercise?

Just as an extra note. Going to the gym doesn't burn off all the excess calories, specific exercises do different things to the body, and for an hour after exercise the bodys metabolism is increased to replace energy that the body has used up from working out, its due to this that the most calories are burnt up in the hour after working out. By walking to the gym & working out, the body will have used up a fair bit of energy from its energy stores and the increased physical exertion on the body will cause it 2 burn up more calories in a period following exercise.

Hope that provides some insight :o)

By the way, if anyone wants to hire the services of a personal trainer over summer, I'm available (around my work) & charge a fiver a session. Can get ya fit without the use of a gym, so u don't have 2 spend ****loads on a joining fee, followed by monthly membership fees & extra charges for extra services.

That post was amazing Nic! Thanks!

Makes me feel all worthy for my bloody long walk to the gym every time I (occasionally) go! lol
It's tedious, but I guess it works, even if I mainly walk because I hate paying for slower-than-me buses!

cheers!
