I know the poster is bad but unfortunately it is the films official poster. So what can you do. It does look like iti is going to be good and all th reviews i've read seem torave about it.
I really want to see this film. Felicity Huffman's performance is supposed to be excellent, but I do wonder why a non-trans person is playing a trans-woman. Couldn't a trans person have played the part... oh yeah, they don't like gays or trans people in hollywood, unless, of course, they're characters in a film played by straight normal people!
on the subject of the poster though, I actually think it's quite powerful. It is direct and questions our preconceptions about a gender binary where we have to choose a 'gender' to associate ourselves with, because society imposes that upon us - here the example is the male/female toilets.
Anyway, I wanna go see and am well up for it in April..... Saturday 8th might be good for me.....

While John I agree that Hollywood is at fault in not promoting Gay or trans actors playing those roles. Films like this do have a huge effect. Felicity Huffman did huge amounts of research on the trans community, and it opened her eyes. SInce taking part in the film she has spoken about her experiences of the trans community and has nothing but pride and respect in them. So all in all its a game of two halves, on the one hand there is Hollywood's lack of support for gay and trans actors (seen as too much of a risk in a big high profile business in America, what with all these Christian fundamentalists around?) and on the other hand they are bringing to light these stories and teaching others about the challenges faced by discrimmination.
By the way showing on sat 8th April is at 9pm if people are still interested.
I know I cant make any of the others due to work so I am definitely going. Unless something amazing comes up like ben cohen, hugh Jackman, Dominic Purcell... you get my drift.
Well, despite the mediocre and expected publicity of the film (e.g. I wouldn't choose it from the poster) the actual story is very clever and a good ground for outstanding performances. Felicity Huffman is more than convincing in the main role. Kevin Zegers is a good-looking lad that can surprise. The film is thriving in strong supporting characters (mothers, fathers, families etc). The casting is excellent and makes the action flow smoothly to a predictable but beautifully humble end. A daydream that swept me up to the clouds with a good laugh and a couple of sweet tears.
