Some of you might or might not know that yesterday (now) me & Joey attended a parliamentary lobby about Sexual Health & spoke about issues such as waiting time for G.U.M clinics, sexual health provisions for university unions & PSHE teaching in schools.
As part of this we met with Greg Mullholland (Leeds MP) to speak about this & the meeting was positive, there is definately going to be support for better & more inclusive teaching about LGBT issues and sexual health/general breeeder sex ed in schools & cutting waiting times n sorting out the dodgy appointment systems for G.U.M clinics in Leeds will be addressed. There's also positive information about the sexual health clinics, Terrence Higgins Trust will be opening a 1-day a week (3-hour) drop in service in Leeds in May for students, which offers testing, diagnosis n treatment within an hour or so (unless its a complex case, if it is the case will be reffered 2 Leeds Centre for Sexual Health).
Any further information resulting from this will be passed onto you all. (Sally & Scott, I'll talk to you about this when ur back in Leeds), I thought it'd be good to let you know the basic information about today and let you know how the assembly has been representing you on a national scale.

I'm not very comfortable with the term 'breeder sex ed', thank you. It's quite derogatory, especially bearing in mind not all of the society are exclusive in their same-sex relationships.
Still, it's always good to have more inclusive and available sexual health services, so well done in representing Leeds down at Parliament. Sexual health is something all of us should be interested in.
A couple of us did a survey about sexual health issues a little while ago (for a small fee ) and by the sound of things there are plans to open a new sexual health centre on or near the campus for students... altho how far off it is till anything will happen is anyones guess!

Thats the new service I was reffering to in the original post. It's ran by Terrence Higgins Trust, will be located conviently near both campuses, be a once a week 3hour drop in service offering rapid testing for a range of STI's and providing treatment/antibiotics... so u can get checked and treated within 2hours. It will be launching in May, so not 2 far off!
Alice sorry for the offence caused by using the term breeder sex ed, I only used it on account of the fact that its the only type PSE lessons currently refer 2 and the fact that 2ppl of the opposite gender havin sex is referred to as heterosexual sex, same as 2 ppl of the same gender having sex is reffered 2 as homosexual sex... regardless of the sexuality of participants. The comment wasn't intended to cause exclusion so sorry for the offence.
Dave, would be willing to meet up with you and talk about the day if you like and show you materials from it, as well as answer any questions you have. It's not cos am been a lazy chuff & not typing a report up, just prioritising things such as the hate crime reporting stuff and dealing with requests made by the universities Equality & Diversity Committee with regards to the booklet & disseminating it to all University staff.
