To be honest I was surprised that it hadn't been mentioned before on the forum, the pink paper, gay times and a lot of gay news websites constantly bring up the issue of homophobic attacks in Jamaica. Articles like this raise two responses in me; firstly relief that I don't live there and that I am (generally) accepted over here and secondly a burning passion against any form of homophobia or discrimination.

Our shared history and struggle for recognition is something that we should all be concerned about. The significance of stonewall bar in new york and the activities of the Gay Liberation front show how much people suffered for recognition. And even today murders and beatings of GLBT people are happening all over the world.

I apologise for lecturing and yes I recognise that people have to make their own minds up and decisions and that I have no right in telling them that they must learn about about GLBT history and be involved with issues. What I have expressed is personal opinion and feelings and I know that I myself am at fault for not doing all I can and finding the attitude of letting it slide far too easy to take.

sorry to burst any naivety bubbles but do u really think the americans give a sh1t about oppressive regimes, considering the put most of these dictators into power in the first place (e.g, saddam hussein, col. Gaddafi etc..). The would not spend billions of dollars on an epic invasion without huge personal benefits, which at present seems to be oil. Ofcourse they are hipocritical, they are the only world nation to ever launch a nuclear missile, and they are also the only nation to threaten to launch one ( they threatned to nuke china if they didnt back out of south korea, which nicely ended that little war). They destroy the planet for their own personal gain and any nation (such as syria or venezuala for example) which tries to stand up to them in any way is rebuffed with a onslaught of bad press (which is mostly untrue and doctored) from the state controlled U.S. media until such time when they've convinced their population its a good idea to attack and then they wipe out everything, take what they want and leave the country in civil war and chaos, which is pretty much what theyre doing in iraq
