Hey not many of you know, but the NUS LGBT gained funding to carry out research in2 estrangement and how it affects the funding/support that LGBT students get, this will be used to make reccomendations & change the current system to provide for these. Anyway, here's a plea from NUS for anyone who has been thru estrangement to help with their research..
As you may know we are in the process of researching the experiences of LGBT students who have no contact with their parents. If this is you, we need your help!
We want to know what happens when you try to get funding as an 'independent' student (i.e. you get no financial help from your parents) - who helped you, where did you apply and what happened.
We have designed a questionnaire for you to tell us about your experiences applying for funding as an independent student. We would be very grateful if you could take the time to fill it in online at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=558602273285.
We need to gather enough information to make credible recommendations to awarding bodies. Not many people have been through this process, so each and every one of your responses will make a difference!
If you are an LGBT Officer or President, please pass it on to as many of your contacts as possible.
We are very grateful for your support with this project, and if you have any questions at any point of this process please do not hesitate to get in touch at any time.
Best wishes,
Geraldine Smith LGBT Development Co-ordinator
David Malcolm Research and Policy Officer (Student Finance)
