OK, after recently discovering that Marilyn Manson's Personal Jesus is, in fact, a cover of the (vastly superior) Depeche Mode song, I got to thinking why on earth does he keep covering songs from the 1980's? I mean I know we're going through a revival and all but for god's sake! The roll call goes:
Sweet Dreams (Eurythmics) Tainted Love (Soft Cell), and now Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode)
...Obviously Soft Cell wasn't the original (Gloria Jones in about 1964), but he was clearly covering Soft Cell's cover, as it were.
What other 80s songs do you all reckon he should do? My money goes on one or all of: Notorious (Duran Duran) Sunglasses At Night (Corey Hart) Into the Groove (Madonna) Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Cyndi Lauper) Wuthering Heights (Kate Bush) ...any other suggestions? And why doesn't he find any other techniques for his covers than 'slow-it-down-a-bit-and-add-some-distorted-guitars-then-wail-over-it-like-a-pregnant-nun'?
I can do with some M. Manson action on "I should be so lucky" by K. Minogue. For the music video, he should do what K. Minogue did in the music video as well. Picture Manson siging in the bath tub. PS As for you spin me around. I've heard rock version of it, but it wasn't Manson.

Nice one Emily. It would be hilarious if he did Castle in the Sky as well. I think that's 70's though. Or what about that 90's hit that goes "God is good, yeah, yeah, yeah"?

Me and a couple of mates were singing 'He's got the whole world, in his hands'... today..As one does obviously.. Maybe I should just lend Marilyn my Come and Praise book complete with volume one and two and he can select whichever religious songs take his fancy... Oooohh!! 'Who put the colours in the rainbow!!' (another cracking hymn sung in my school days-nostalgia!)xx
