or just google it. there is so much about it on multiple websites. whats going on???? im confused!"
ooh, now i can show off my knowledge of far-right politics
the bnp was formed in the early 80s after bitter in-fighting among the National Front (NF). webster was leader of the NF at the time, a rather flamboyant character who was known to be gay. a man called john tyndall formed a break-away party known as the british national party (BNP) because he strongly disliked webster and thought that the NF was not as hard-line as it should be and was at its inception. if you look at the NF's early history, the daily mail newspaper was supportive of their ideology (if you can call it that), and some of these currents do not go undetected in today's daily mail.
anyhoos, griffin took leadership of the party in the late 90s and has remained so since. he and tyndall were arrested last week (i think) in light of their words on islam and multiculturalism as seen on the BBC programme earlier this year, the secret agent.
i hope nobody is fooled by recent party 'political' broadcasts. the BNP remains the same party with the same grass-roots membership it has always been.
i have also read about the gay question in relation to the far right. one theory is that closeted gay men find the macho, thuggish image of right-wing politics a good smokescreen for their sexual preferences. the german nazi party is documented to have had gay member (some quite prominent figures indeed), and the same goes for other parties across europe. look at pim fortuyn, the not-so-long-ago assassinated dutch MP who also held strong views of islam and immigration. in spite of this, is it estimated that millions of gay men and women were executed in the nazi death camps. let us not also forget that nick griffin remains a holocaust denier, maintaining that it was all mass hysteria and propaganda.
don't be surprised in all this however. the politics of white supremacy and the extreme right are riddled with ironies and hypocrisy. they are unambiguously two things though: well versed in political rhetoric and racist scum.
