Hey, my name is Eva, I'm here for second semester on exchange from Canada, and I'm the "l' component of the lgbt. Since I've always found the being a part of the glbt club at my home university such a positive experience, I thought I'd like to join here, if I could. So, can I just randomly drop by the Union from 12-2 on any weekday and say "Hi, I'm a big lesbian, can I hang out with you guys?" Apart from paying a fee to join, is that all there is to it? Is there actually anybody there during these coffee gatherings? Can I just show up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Come to the refreshers fair today (Thursday) and join. Come at 11 and me and Nic will be there to welcome you with open arms (and legs in Nic's case). Coffee hour is usually busy, the best day to come will be a Tuesday as there are fun and games as well as instructional talks. Just turn up and meet everybody, if you hate us at least you get a free cuppa tea from the experience. There are sings up pointing you in the right direction and everything.

Adam is right - pop into the freshers fair tomorrow in the Riley Smith Hall (anytime between 10am and 4pm) and you can meet members and sign up - or even better come to a coffee hour. Coffee hours are always busy - we get a crowd of around 20 people a day. We give free tea, coffee and biscuits away and can sign you up there too.
We have loads of events going on throughout the semester. The best thing to do is to explore the forum and the website further to find out more about what we do, or come to an event and ask there!!! (this is better than me ranting here for 2000 words or so about the society, and a damn sight easier on the eye as well, believe me)

Thanks for the advice everybody. I can't come by today (Thursday, as I have classes and plans with a friend) but I will definitely drop by a coffee hour, possibly on Friday between my classes. Thanks for the responses, and I'll see you all soon!
