i'm confused. i just read the article and i'm not entirely sure what's going on.

is he being accused of being racist for likening someone to a concentration camp guard? if so, then it's not in the slightest bit racist. it seems a bit odd that he's called a racist when he was saying exactly that about the newspaper.

funny how almost the entirety of the media have glossed over exactly what ken objected to: the dubious interest of a rightwing rag in an LGBT event.

the point he was making is that these hacks don't give a flying fúck about anyone, so long as they make their money. like a nazi prisoncamp guard, they are only in it for the money.

it is odd: why would the ES want a photo of everyone leaving that particulary party?

I totally agree with him, maybe he didn't voice it in the best way but he is totally right, the Daily Mail are nazis and that is that.

and just to reinforce his comment, most people are unaware that the daily mail only withdrew its support for moseley's british union of fascists (BUF) when an affluent jewish advertiser threatened not to use the mail any longer. hence ken's accusation that the rag and its 'journalists' will do anything for money.

Ironic, don't you think, that it is those who scream 'PC Gone Mad' who rile at even the slightest of comments.

Ironic, is it not, the the Mail group were the mouth-piece for the anti-semites in the first half of the 20th Century.

Ironic is it not, the it is the Daily Mail that is guilty of bigotry and hate, not Ken Livingstone.

Maybe if the Mail and its group of papers spent more time accurately reporting the news rather than promoting xenophobia, homophobia and bigotry, spent more time debating the issues rather than hounding down a story to score pre-election points for the Tories and perhaps if they spent more time thinking about what they were writing and perpetuating rather than tarnishing the name of one of the most honest and down to earth politicians this country has got, we'd all be better off.

Bring that paper to my coffee hour at your own peril. I'm all for freedom of speech. Just not blatant hate and crap journalism.

while i whole heartedly agree that the mail is an appallingly bad newspaper, i do think it is entirely misleading to refer to a position the newspaper held such a long time ago, probably before all the current staff were even born.

i think it should also be remembered that the mail is a business. there is definately a market for bigotry wrapped up in pseudo-broadsheet journalism. if the mail didn't fill that gap, someone else would.

How is it misleading? I reffered to the papers history of bigotry, one that it still purports.

Do we just accept bigotry because it will always be there or do we fight it? I'm willing to fight it, no matter what its guise.

and it probably is good that the mail fills that gap, because it does it so badly and thereby makes it easier for people to show how its 'journalism' is little more than ignorant, hate- and fear-filled lies.
