has the world gone insane yesterday as i worked i noticed two smartly dressed chaps walk onto the ward and begin handing out newspapers as it said weekly news at the top i at first paid little attention that is untill a patient beckoned me over and asked what the meaning of this religious properganda was. As i glanced at the papaer i was shocked to see it was the product of a very secular section of the christian happy clappy brigade. Now Im not religious i am however very spiritual and supportive of other religions and I also have a duty to safe guard other peoples beliefs so i saw the fact that an elderly muslim lady was given this was quite insulting. I approached these men to ask who had given them permission they replied g-d in reply to this I pointed out although the allmighty may controll all of creation I am in charge of this environment I asked them to return to each bed space and remove the papers before i called security they became very agressive about their views and so I went round the patients asking if they wanted the papers most of whom said no and had told me that although they had refused the papers the men had insisted they read it as it may save them. The papers were quite offensive and very much focussed around how individuals will be condemmed to hell for not turning to g-d.
anyway my point is
was i wrong to ask them to leave
chris
and if no then what kind of world do we live in where these people think they can come and force their views on the vulnerable
I don't think it was wrong to ask them to leave at all - surely the most important thing in this situation is the wellbeing of the patients, which isn't going to be helped by belligerent, brainwashed types. They were not acting out of compassion; if they truly wanted people to hear the word of God they'd have come up with a far more user-friendly way of doing so.
Oh my goodness! Some people have no decency...... Chris, I would have rolled one of those newspapers and hit them with it all the way out of the hospital.
