Well I have to work tonight but shall tag along for the first hour of the tour before tootling off to Queens. The scene tour is always a big laugh and a good way for freshers to continue meeting people. Seeing how different all the bars actually are is great as well because even though there's not that many and people generally tend to end up choosing a regular haunt such as queens, base, fibre etc..if you fancy a complete change of scene at any point there's always somewhere else to go. I think one of my favourites in general as a change of atmosphere (and it's classy folks) is the New Penny. Alot of people don't like to venture there religiously as it's not a large venue or a particularly pretty one, but having been in Leeds for 3 years I still love the atmosphere of the place. It's just a great tacky, ridiculous, fun, camp place to go.. Some people find it a bit seedy, but to be honest people could say that about queens or base and they have done.. If you're out with a group of friends then you won't even notice the odd leery man and eventually the peeling paint won't be of concern. The owner Aiden always makes me feel very welcome, and even when I just started going there because other queens staff did he was always extremely friendly. The best thing about this bar I would say is that it is not pretentious in any way. The people in there are just there to enjoy themselves and have a laugh. Obviously some places will not be someone's cup of tea no matter who they're with, but I guess I'm saying don't judge things on appearances or what you hear from others necessarily as I know I've done that in the past.
Anyway, sorry for rambling on. I think all the bars are great in their own way so have a laugh in them meeting all the new folk, get very merry, etc etc!! Love Emily.xx

See, I would be coming tonight, but I have to embrace my geekiness and tootle along to the anime soc. thing at Japanic.
The couple of places I have been to so far have been fun though, and a few of us ventured into the new penny the other day and they were playing one of my fave cheesy party tunes... the Grease Megamix! haha

Ooh, let me know how that goes! I've been meaning to check the anime society out for ages, but promised my housemates I'd come along to the scene tour as they're running it.
And Emily's words are very wise indeed. One person's favourite bar can be another's idea of a night from hell, and vice versa. You won't know until you get out there and see them, so try to reserve judgement until your feet have at least stuck to the floor!
It was crazy, it was fun, it was a huge group compared with what I'd expected. Having not gone last year because, well I don't know why but for some unclear reason, I thought it was great. Good to see that most people made it to Mission at the end as well. Joe was a fantastic leader with top hat and tails. Great stuff. Thanks to everyone who organised, as one of the plebs I can say that it was a great event.
to say i wasn't really in the mood to go out, i had an excellent time. it was good to chat to both new people and the veterans that i didn't really know last year.
of course i was completely off my face.
can i just say hello to the girl i was kissing too. i'm not sure you were with our group, but if you were and you read this, hey! too bad i'm a homo cos you're hot!

ps i'm completely deaf this morning. has the music got louder or am i aging fast?
I vaguely remember trying to avoid the river on my way back, just in case!!! Was an amazing night, even though I think I spent my student loan. Well done to Mr Willy Wonka for his leading, we all found each other in the end!!!

Oh, shut up John. Even my boyfriend's told me you're a good-looking guy.
Sorry for leaving early (though most of you probably didn't notice) but I was feeling poorly and in need of a cuddle. All the freshers I spoke to were lovely, even if there were a lot of Sams and I got a bit confused. And yes, my sources tell me a fair bit of snogging went on! Tut tut, you naughty boys and girls.
It'd be amazing if we continued to get such a large turnout at events. I hope you all give weekly wind-down a try this evening, and come out for the Manchester trip on the 8th. (And buy Joe/Willy Wonka a few drinks, too, as he is the birthday boy. Can't guarantee I can convince him to wear the top hat again, tho!)
