Last night the razzmatazz djs unanimously agreed that the next razzmatazz (Thursday 15th December) is to be the last one at bar phono and also the end of the night as a monthly event. Some of the reasons for this are things like burn out, having lots of other commitments, and wanting to end the night (in its current incarnation at least) while it's still enjoyable and on a relatively high point rather than letting it fade away. However our decision is largely the result of the attitude of the bouncers and management at bar phono towards our night and our clientelle. It's an attitude that extends to other d.i.y. nights but we feel that razzmatazz has been particularly badly hit (perhaps owing to our night being the most queer?) Fair enough if the bouncer has to i.d. people but it doesn't seem like he's been consistant in who he's i.ding. What's more, whilst we understand why he may not want people to be let in if they're blind drunk or looking for a fight, it also seems that the bouncer can turn people away just for 'not liking the look of them' which legitimises any assumptions/prejudices he may have about our clientelle as reasons not to let them in. This is not acceptable and the management have been unsupportive and haven't been taking us seriously when we try to press the issue. We therefore will be packing razz in in it's current state after the 15th December. Hope you can all make it to the final monthly razz so we can make it an ace night and end on a really really high point...
Thanks to everyone who's supported us over the last year and a half, by helping out on the door, coming to our nights and dancing yr asses off and making it all ace fun. This is by no means the end and we will be putting on occasional nights in future at different venues, hopefully djing at gigs, maybe doing some collaborative nights.
