Oh, I think sitting on the door all night being a sober observer can't've been that boring.
Sorry for not turning up. Nasty case of the 'flu stopped me from putting my dancing shoes on, but I'm so glad the committee members involved in Curious made it a success and carried it on from last year, and it'll be ace to see the photos. (Take it the turnout was greater than in Bar Phono, which I believe has actually been shut down now! )
Sounds like the night was a roaring sucess - congratulations to all involved, especially Rich who seems to have worked his dear little arse off.
I do hope there will be another Curious and that I might have the privilege to DJ at it, like old times. Obviously that is down to the next committee though! But whatever happens, I'll come along and dance :)
Again Conrats all.

PS. Watch out! I'm back!

John did NOT clear the dancefloor! I was quite clearly on the dancefloor when he and Ally were playing their sets. (Albeit, uh, I may not have been dancing...)

Yeah, we all remember what you were doing!

I think the event was amazing, especially since I was there from the very beginning after arriving at 8:30 for reasons that are just too silly to go into. Many many people contributed to the night's success, but I saw the most impressive work from Richard (Comms Officer of the Committee) and thought he did a great job; advertising and trying to get everybody aware of the event, getting the publicity out in time and making sure (beforehand) that everything would go smoothly. It seems like planning for big nights always takes place in the days beforehand, rarely at the time in question, so by having banners on the forum, leaftlets at Mission, and Posters in the Union, I think he was great. Thanks Rich!
And thanks to everyone for not leaving the dancefloor upon hearing such delights as the Spice Girls, and a Miss Kittin remix (it was a Pay-per-play, or whatever it's called). misterpete x

While I'm not denying Richard did a wonderful job, please remember that the last Curious was equally well planned for. I remember standing outside the union steps on a cold morning with Curious fliers in hand along with Nic, John K and many others I can't quite recall during Queer Week. I think my only criticism is that perhaps a bit too much money went into printing costs and publicity. I mean come on, who hasn't thrown shiny fliers in the bin? I see nothing wrong with a photocopied bit of paper, really, and I am sure the cost is much lower. All in all, though, I do think a good job was done.
I wish all events could be promoted with such enthusiasm, or indeed the message could reach people more easily in some cases. Especially with regards to the web site, which is woefully out of date in certain areas. (Though admittedly the union have been having FTP problems, so I'll let that one slide for now.)
I have to say, proper flyers make a difference from what I've seen in that they actually work - the night still made a profit from what I've heard so that would perhaps imply that the model is working as it is? Either way, the cost has been absorbed so I personally don't see it being a problem.
If a more regular date is agreed on in future, both/x-number dates could go on the flyers/posters to decrease costs that way anyway?
Bear in mind I used to promote a clubnight myself and have found out the woes of not getting proper flyers.
We needed 5 people to come for every 100 flyers printed to make the money back on them. I don't believe if we had handed out black and white photocopies as many people would have come - proper fliers just make the night look more professional.
Also the website won't let me log in to update it! I have the updated events page ready but no-one can see it! Grr!

Sorry about that Alice, I didn't mean to step on any toes. I didn't go to any of the Curious event(s) last year, perhaps because I was too sucked into the whole straight-clubbing world so I couldn't say anything about previous events. I just thought this one was great, and of course it's a collective thing, but I thought it was impressive. All around, a great event!
OOOh - i came to your special event thingy from Lancashire last week. I had lots of fun and danced like this ----> /*+%4! ........it was very impressive!
Just to say thankyou..................and well done....and weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
