Random thought here, but can anyone tell me why beans on toast is so nice? There's nothing to it really is there, but it's just so yummy and makes you feel better! Any suggestions anyone?

Mixing brown sauce in with the beans and cooking until they're mushy adds a nice bit of spicy variety. And it'll make even the most vile 2p Netto beans taste good.
Generally though, plain beans and plain toast just don't do it for me.
Hmm never thought of adding brown sauce, might have to try it some time... To be honest I went off beans for ages, but seem to have gotten quite into them again since being at uni! No stereotypes here huh

another good bean related tip is to stir in a teaspoon full of butter or margarine into the beans while cooking. this emulsifies the beans and makes them glossy and gives the sauce a wonderful flavour.
beans tips. Brought to you by the man who invented ice cream pie!

Like drew I add a little butter to my (yes Branston - the best) beans, but also a little pepper. This makes them very nice. A little chilli or curry powder is also quite cool. Or chopped up Linda McCartney sausages!

Don't knock it till you've tried it, eh?
I mean, sure, a warm rabbit and foie gras salad would go down a treat (anyone see Master Chef last week?) but when the nearest supermarket is Netto, one's options are a tad limited.

Have you not tried the glorious Branston Beans though? Their sauce is so nice, 70% of the population preferred them to Heinz and HP (thanks to Richard and Judy).
Well if the beans are anything like the pickles, it may well be worth a try. It will be a bitter pill to swallow, but I will buy these beans of branston that you talk about and eat a tin of baked beans at uni. I havent so far on principle.

I kinda agree with you there - some things just shouldn't be microwaved. Other methods of cooking leave food tasting nicer, but the microwave's so convenient! Evil machine. ooo butter's another interesting tip. I've still managed not to try Branston beans yet (even though I live with two of the biggest advocates of it! ) but there are cheaper beans which are just as good surely...

Cheaper beans are fine (Asda Smart Price. Woo!), but if you want the tip top bestest beans for a special treat, it's Branstons all the way. Yum.
We still haven't figured out what makes them so tasty...

What, never?
Do you not think my comment was underpinned by an understanding of just how reprehensible an activity it actually is?
I think the problem is more that I'm not funny.
I'll add that I really can't tell the difference between cheap beans and posh beans. They all taste like vagualy sugary mulch to me - which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Jeni xx
At the moment it's £1 for 4 cans of Branston beans at the glorious Asda!
The best thing about microwaves is you can make those cakes-in-a-can in them in a minute, yum yum yum.
i haven't eaten baked beans in years, are branston beans supposed to be the same type of thing as heinz, why bother bringing them out? don't like baked beans at all, would rather just have the toast
best way of mixing up beans on toast... 4get the brown sauce n other stuff, just grab sum cheese singles chuck em in2 the mix n stir the melted cheesy beany mush up & whack in sum pepper, its gr8!
Altho ravioli on toast is the way forward, mmmmm. Might have that 4 breakfast actually...
