What do you think?
Hypothetically.....
Student only Gay night once a month, most probably a weekday Bondi / Baha / Evolution type venue Student Friendly priced Drinks Cheese / Dance / RnB
Invitations to LGBT's from other unversities in Yorkshire...
and maybe something like a glass of bubbly on entry...
If entry was, say £5, Would you be interested in going??

Sounds like Curious to me.

most students nights run at clubs are not actually the work of the club itself. The Venue is hired out and then the club promotion team (different set of folk) jump in and promote it - so don't really see why not.
Meh! It was just a passing thought really, wanna see what ppl think!

To me, it sounds like Mission. I know Homo isn't an exclusively gay night, nor a student night, but it attracts a large number of LGBT students. For all its criticisms, many people do enjoy it, so this new night would have to offer something rather special for people to go.
I'd probably go if it wasn't exclusively cheese/dance/RnB, but what I dislike most about Homo is the fact that it's such a commercial night that seems to be more concerned with making money than anything else. While I'm not denying that these places need to make a profit to run, it'd be nice if the focus was on truly making sure people had a good night.

It's a good idea, where I live (when not in Leeds) in the hinterlands of Wariwckshire there are no predominantly gay clubs/bars. But every sunday we take over one of the bars and meet up, more for a social than anything else. The only problem I can see is that the venues listed above are like mission, people go there to get out of their heads and pull. Whilst it is possible to go with a group of friends and have a good time without doing these things the venue itself doesn't make for a good night out. Somewhere like bourbon, hifi, or even fab cafe would offer something different to the standard scene.
Personally something like curious once a month would be great but unless we can persuade the union then it would need to be done in partnership with the venue.
I think somewhere like the Fab Cafe would work great for an informal night out in theory. (Though I heard that on one of the LGBT Otley runs last year, two of our members were given a warning for kissing each other there.)
It was Steve and Chris, and not the most pleasant sight in the world!
With regards to Curious there shouldn't be any problems from the Union as long as Mine Bar is booked well in advance. I'm not sure what plans the new committee have for it though...

the problem with union bookings is u need to go right at the start of term and block book evrything u want concerning the bigger venues like mine and stylus, otherwise they get snapped up.

yay! i saw goldfrapp in manchester on 18th february for a valentine's present and they were absolutely amazing! alison made like a deity and well, will gregory stayed hidden but his music was fantastic. they had dancers with horse heads for 'ride a white horse' but they didn't play 'twist' - my only complaint.
Why do queer nights only seem to involve cheese/r'n'b/dance music? Now don't get me wrong, a bit of cheese on a night out can be a right laugh, but what about all the alternative kids??? Where are the indie/punk/metal etc nights? That would be such a nice change, to combine the two scenes

The problem is of course, Fibre and Mission sort of have the monoply on gay-club nights in leeds now, what with Homo taking over Poptastic. It's a real shame.
And whilst Popstarz does combine a few genres of music, they tend to play the same stuff every time I go. I liked Poptastic in Manchester because I didn't always know what I was dancing to! :)

Well I enjoy mission but only if im out with certain people its what you make of it. Sure is dank drug ridden and the music is old and tired but for gods sake people thats what we sighned up for when we got rid of poptastic!!!!!
I would like to take the time to inform you of a new gay rock venue well not new but gay kammel club in huddersfield are pioleting a new gay night Every tuesday 10-3 it should be fun have spys setting off now to prepare for a recon mission lol.
In short mission is vile on occasion with pilled up queers and coked up dykes but thats true of most gaybars its all prissy little queens with pointless vendettas who create little stories. Perfect example is our reputations we all have one iv learnt to ignore them if I stopped talking to everyone who had a bad rep then id run out of friends plus I know mine aint great I believe im described as that "loudmouthed easy whore" well I might be loud mouthed and easy but im no whore. any way im babbleing so sod the gay scene hold your head up high say "I am what I am and I dont need no excuses" then move on and think about how much better you are that them. Well anyhow must dash got my sisters funeral someone dropped a house on her last week that bloody dorothey
