Hello my little ones!

Had a meeting 2day with the universities E&D Unit rep, bout the booklet, a synopsis of it & getting staff training organised. Thought it'd b nice to let u know the outcome....

One bad point - the synopsis got lost, but on the flipside I've got a copy which will be with them on Thursday. Once its in the E&D worker is going to look at it n make their recommendations to tailor it towards lecturers with the E&D teams aims, following that there's going to be another meeting with me to work all this into a document containing both the E&D aims and all of our info & aims. Once this has all been discussed, finalised and agreed on, it will be distributed to all teaching staff at the university. Basically wot we are trying to do is condense 30pages into 5/6 and tailor it towards teaching staff... so all the stuff in the booklet that was aimed at nightline, the paper, legal section for LGBT-ers, is gonna be cut out apart from the most relevant points.

The issues & personal experiences section is also going to be cut out apart from a few quotes about educational stuff. Unless, anyone who's experienced problems or had issues with lecturers at Leeds or comments made by teaching staff in lectures seminars, wants to come forward and give me a short statement about what happened, how it made you feel, how it affected your view of the lecturer/dept/university or ur relations with them, if any action was taken & if it was, what happened. These would be more relevant to include than the stuff about schools and colleges.. any help would be greatly appreciated. As always any contributions will be kept anonymous. You can either e-mail me them at the addys at the bottom of here, or post on this thread anonymously.

In addition to the synopsis the full booklet will be put on E&D's website (its already on the LUU website) with a linkage provided in the synopsis for staff to read further into it if they wish.

Moving on from that E&D are working on a full training set covering race with a lecturer specialising in racial issues, gender issues with a Dr from the gender section of the university, me for all things LGBT and LGBT student views and a few others with other various bits n bobs n specialist areas, all of these will be incorparated into the staff training and will have been carried out before september in preparation for the 06/07 year.

Other than that, theres also going to be a separate sheet containing my biog covering how all this came about, whats been done thru the assembly this year, how i feel about all this as LGBT rep n dealing with the issues this year and my personal thoughts about how to improve things.

I'll have more info to give you following the next couple of weeks n series of meetings, but yeah everythings looking really promising & there's gonna b alot of work going into this. Once its all done n sorted I hope it makes a positive difference for all of ya (present & prospective) here.
