Hi guys,
Hope you dont mind me posting a bit of information on Poptastic this weekend - it looks like being a big one, with a lot of interest and so I thought I'd let you guys have the information.
I am really looking forward to it - I know it means a lot to a lot of you to have an affordable, cheap night that doesn't break the bank to get in and get very drunk once you're there! it's been a long time since Leeds has a really good, cheap Saturday night, so we're chuffed to bits to welcome back Poptastic!
If any of you need to reach me for whatever reason, throw an email to gary@clubmission.com and I'll gladly help!
Looking forward to seeing some of the costumes from the Otley Run! Who's coming down to Poptastic afterwards?

Hey Laura!
As said above, it was both levels of the Annexe only :)
The Annexe is often used as part of the other Friday nights we had at the club, but its great to have Poptastic back where the entrance / drinks are so cheap. It means we can use some of the overall club for a really good night out :) You guys certainly looked be enjoying! :)
I heard a good mix of indie and pop myself - and a few people wanted more pop! lol! Drop me an email to gary@clubmission.com if you have any suggestions guys :)
How come? The place was very busy and it was a great atmosphere.
It made a nice change to the usual Saturday night offerings of house, electro and then some at the club.
Even though I was working most of the night, I really enjoyed it! The popping balloons bit was hilarious!
Thanks to everyone that came down and made it a very drunken, fun night :)
It didn't have staying power last time, the first few were busy yeah but it died off quite quickly.
Main reasons it died off first time round were:
*There wasn't enough indie music, thats something poptastic is known for, its not all just cheesy pop & after a while cheesy pop begins 2 grate on you abit. *We were boxed into a small part of Mission. *The novelty wore off quite quickly.
Not saying that I didn't enjoy the night on saturday, I just don't think its gonna last cos nothings been done to address or sort out the reasons why it died off the first time round Mission hosted it.
Homo's good cos there's space, different rooms for different music tastes and you can move around without feeling like ur boxed in. Poptastic at the ****pit and in Manchester were/are better due to same reasons.
Yeah it made a different offering 2 the usual Saturday night stuff (sod all) but selling a gay indie/pop night in a box that doesn't really play indie music is abit misleading & the cheesy pop novelty wears off quite fast tho. It'll only stick around if u actually give people wot they want n listen 2 them, rather than tryin 2 relaunch a night without actually changing any of the reasons why it died out in the first place.

yeah I aint keen on indie music, I'll admit it quite happily, but its nice to have something different to cheesy pop on occasionally... look at mondays nights at QC last september, same cheese every bluddy monday for 2months, working mondays used 2 drive me insane. Think it scarred me for life. Plus workmates at Wetherspoons have spent the last year forcefeeding me indie music so I don't mind it as much now...

Hi mate :)
Taking your reasons :
1) There seems to be quite a few people wanting more indie. I really do welcome your comments mate :)
2) Again, reiterating what I have said elsewhere, Mission operates night that work with a variety of audiences - from the hardcore crowd of Vibealite, right through to the fluffiest, campest girls of Homo! Saturday nights are obviously a very busy time for any club in Leeds, but we brought Poptastic back to Leeds utilising the Annexe. Poptastic were the one brand that really kitted the club out well with banners, Shagtags and those popping balloons! lol! There is a real lack of something to do in Leeds if you're not after a 6am-dance music type of night isn't there? I am actually a dance music DJ and have worked in the scene for a good couple of years now and it used to annoy me that when I had Saturday nights off I couldnt just go anywhere to get slaughtered - and pull! Hopefully, Poptastic will go some way to meeting those needs
3) The novelty wearing off quickly? I really hope that the combied efforts of Poptastic and Mission working together can ensure this doesnt happen. And, once again, we're very grateful for your feedback :)
Thanks to Drew and everyone at the LGB for letting us take the constructive criticism back from here :) Obviously, as is usual with club night feedback, the majority of people who had a really good night don't comment - if people have something to say then it is generally constructive feedback.

Yeah I know what you're saying here mate - I'm the kind of person who needs a change in music too!
I am a pop queen to the end... however as a change from the usual gay nights in leeds even I wanted some actual indie!!! More indie please.... it made it different in the annex and i (hope) think it will work!! Good night :) More indie xx

Thank god for living in Leeds now. Lalala.

Eugh! Done that many-a-time when I used to live in places like Huddersfield and needed to get back from Leeds / Manchester!!
Seems like such a good idea at the time, but when you have 2 or 3 hours to kill and there is nothing more than the cold and an ocassional station cleaner to keep you company, it's the worst 3 hours of your life! lol!
